Learning French through song and music Seasons in French Winter - L'hiver

French Christmas song for kids: L’as-tu vu?

Are you ready for another fun French Christmas song? L’as-tu vu? is one of my daughter’s absolute favourite. She requests it over and over (and over) again, and I love to play it just to watch her eyes gleaming with excitement as she sings along and dances to it.

It’s a great Christmas song to learn as a family, especially as the little kiddos get excited about Santa Claus’ arrival.

There are many versions of this Christmas song on YouTube, but this is the one she loves the most, so here you go!

French Christmas song L’as-tu vu? with lyrics and English translation

L’as-tu vu? Ce petit bonhomme
L’as-tu vu? Ce petit bonhomme
L’as-tu vu, l’as-tu vu?
Ce petit bonhomme, ce petit bonhomme
L’as-tu vu, l’as-tu vu?
Ce petit bonhomme au capuchon pointu?
On l’appelle Père Noël
Par la cheminée, par la cheminée,
On l’appelle Père Noël
Par la cheminée, il descendra du ciel
Il apporte des joujoux,
Il en a plein sa hotte, il en a plein sa hotte,
Il apporte des joujoux,
Il en a plein sa hotte et c’est pour nous
Have you seen him? This little guy
Have you seen him? This little guy
Have you seen him, have you seen him?
This little man, this little man
Have you seen him, have you seen him?
That little guy with the pointy hood?
We call him Santa Claus
Through the fireplace, through the fireplace,
We call him Santa Claus
Through the chimney he will descend from the sky
He brings toys,
He’s got his hood full of them, he’s got his hood full of them,
He brings toys,
He’s got his hood full and it’s for us

This version uses the word “capuchon” but in other versions, you may hear the word “chapeau” instead. Capuchon refers to a hood while chapeau means hat.

This version is also great for teaching French to children because it’s quite slow. As your child gets comfortable with the lyrics, you can try some faster versions to make it even more exciting.
